CBD FAQs

READY TO LEARN ABOUT CBD.   HERE ARE SOME OF THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS  THAT PEOPLE  TEND TO ASK .

WHAT IS CBD?

is an acronym for cannabidiol, a prominent naturally occurring phytocannabinoid found in hemp. Depending on the specific hemp cultivar, CBD can comprise the majority of a plant’s phytocannabinoid content.  However, it is just one of dozens of different cannabinoids and phytochemicals found in hemp.  Of these compounds, however, CBD is usually present in the highest concentration.  It is, therefore, one of the most recognized – and popular cannabinoids.  CBD is a non-intoxicating component of heCBD mp that possesses a wide range of beneficial properties.  It does not cause a high, unlike THC. Our bodies are made up of an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that uses naturally-occurring endocannabinoids to maintain health and homeostasis.  As a phytocannabinoid, CBD works to interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system and promote a sense of balance and wellness.

WHAT IS THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM?

Every single person has an endocannabinoid system (ECS), whether they’ve consumed hemp products before in their lives or not. The ECS consists of naturally-occurring endocannabinoids (such as anandamide) and their corresponding receptors (such as CB-1 and CB-2 receptors). The ECS is believed to interact with dozens of different internal processes in the body. Endocannabinoids interact with various receptors, and this molecular interaction communicates messages to the body’s central nervous system. We are still far from a complete understanding of the human ECS, but it is an incredibly exciting topic of interest.

CBD is a phytocannabinoid (‘phyto’ meaning plant-based) from hemp that shares a similar molecular structure as the body’s natural endocannabinoids. As such, it interacts with ECS receptors to influence a range of wellness benefits. Feel free to check out our ongoing blog for additional information on the endocannabinoid system.

WHAT IS A CANNABINOID?

Cannabinoids are compounds that activate cannabinoid receptors (CB1 & CB2), including endocannabinoids, phytocannabinoids, and synthetic cannabinoids.

WHAT IS A CB1 RECEPTOR?

CB1 (cannabinoid-1) is a receptor type in the ECS believed to be located primarily in the brain and peripheral nervous system, activated by all types of cannabinoids. CBD signals the body’s natural mechanisms to activate those receptors to do more of what they do naturally.

WHAT IS A CB2 RECEPTOR?

CB2 (cannabinoid-2) is a receptor type in the ECS believed to be located primarily in the peripheral tissues of the immune system, the gastrointestinal system, the peripheral nervous system and to a lesser degree in the central nervous system. CBD signals the body’s natural mechanisms to activate those receptors to do more of what they do naturally.

WHAT IS A PHYTOCANNABINOID?

“Phyto” means plant-phytocannabinoids are the cannabinoids naturally occurring in plants like hemp.  Many plants make cannabinoids, but hemp plants contain particularly large amounts of many cannabinoids, with CBD (cannabidiol) being the post prolific.

WHAT IS DELTA-9-THC?

THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol (AKA Delta 9-THC)– the psychoactive component in marijuana or what makes you feel “high.” To be legal on the federal level, CBD products must contain 0.3% or less THC.

WHAT IS DELTA-8-THC?

Delta-8-THC is chemically different form delta-9-THC  by only a few atomic bonds and still offers a potent high of its own.  While delta-8-THC ony exists naturally in fractions of a percent, companies are finding value in concentrating esoteric cannobinoids for thier unique effects and applications.

The National Cancer Instutuite defines delat-8-THC as an analogue of THC with antiemetic, anxiolytic, appetite-stimulating, analogesic, and neuroprotective properties.   Delta-8-THC exhibits a lower psychotropic potency than delta-9-THC, the primary form of THC found in cannabis.

WHAT IS CBD OIL?

CBD oil is extracted from hemp that has high levels of cannabidiol (CBD) and low levels (less than 0.3%) of THC.  Raw hemp extract can be used in paste form, or mixed with other oils such as coconut, olive, MCT, or hemp seed oil to produce what’s commonly known as a ‘CBD oil.’ CBD oils from Lemah Creek Naturals are made with MCT oil due to the molecular structure of medium chain triglycerides, which works well to help dissolve the CBD compound as efficiently as possible.

The cannabidiol (CBD) content of CBD oil can vary tremendously across different brands since manufacturers use an assortment of techniques (and different hemp cultivars) to make their CBD oil. At Lemah Creek Naturals, we only produce CBD oil from hemp that has a high concentration of phytochemicals (see corresponding lab reports) and THC levels under 0.3%.

WHAT ARE TERPENES?

Terpenes are compounds found in the essential oils produced by many plants (what makes a lemon smell like a lemon), including hemp. Terpenes bond with cannabinoids, leveraging one another creating synergistic effects, otherwise known as the entourage effect. Different combinations of terpenes and cannabinoids have different effects..

WHAT IS THE ENTOURAGE EFFECT?

The entourage effect is when the various compounds of a full spectrum CBD hemp oil are combined, their benefit is greater than what you’d receive from each individual component. There are over 100 identified compounds in the cannabis plant. While most of these compounds have their own therapeutic benefits, they combine synergistically to provide far better results.

WHAT IS HEMP?

Hemp, sometimes called industrial or agricultural hemp, comes from the non-psychoactive varieties of Cannabis sativa L, which have 0.3% or less of THC. Hemp is similar to marijuana, in that they come from the same plant family (Cannabis) but are genetically distinct and are different in their use, chemical makeup and cultivation methods.

WHAT DOES CBD DO IN THE BODY?

CBD works within your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS helps to regulate a variety of processes like eating, sleeping, relaxation, recovery and cognition. It’s like your body’s operating system. CBD acts upon receptors in the ECS as well as limiting the breakdown of anandamide (often called the bliss molecule). In doing so, CBD can help your ECS function at its best.

WHAT IS ANANDAMIDE?

Anandamide (AEA) is a neurotransmitter produced in the body. It comes from the Sanskrit word, Ananda, which means “happiness, pleasure, joy and delight” and is often referred to as the bliss molecule.

HOW IS OUR CBD OIL MANUFACTURED?

Our hemp is grown and harvested in the USA.  At Lemah Creek Naturals, we use solvent-free CO2 extraction.  The Supercritical CO2 extraction process creates phase changes in carbon dioxide by controlling temperature and pressure.   Using CO2 extraction allows us to make a pure clean product that is safe to to produce with little to no post processing.   Processes that use toxic solvents may require many hours to remove the solvent used to produce the end product.  Multiple industeries have proven that the highest efficiencies in commercial processing utilize CO2.  Click to see the CO2 Process diagram.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEMP & MARIJUANA?

Hemp and marijuana come from the same plant family, with a genus and species name of Cannabis sativa L. They have a drastically different chemical profile though. Industrial hemp is its own ‘variety’ of Cannabis sativa L.  As research has shown,  marijuana can exist as Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, or Cannabis ruderalis. The major difference is how industrial hemp has been bred compared to a marijuana form of Cannabis sativa.

Typically speaking, industrial hemp is very fibrous, with long strong stalks, and has few flowering buds. Marijuana forms of Cannabis sativa are typically smaller, bushier, and full of flowering buds. However, some industrial hemp varieties in the USA are being bred to have more flowers and higher yields of phytocannabinoids and terpenes, such as the hemp hemp used to make Lemah Creek Natural products.

Marijuana has higher amounts of THC than it does CBD. Hemp, on the other hand, has a high amount of CBD in most instances, and THC levels below 0.3 %.   Thus, the lower THC content is more appealing to those who would like to achieve the natural benefits the hemp plant has to offer instead of the “high’ that the marijuana plant provides.

Hemp has been used historically to make food, fiber, rope, paper, bricks, oil, natural plastic, and so much more. The term ‘CBD oil’ refers to hemp-derived oil with THC levels below 0.3%.

Lemah Creek Naturals sources all of its CBD products using only the finest Illinois and Wisconsin grown hemp. We are committed to quality, and want all customers to know that their satisfaction is our primary goal. If you have any additional questions about hemp or any of our hemp-based products, please contact us at.

IS CBD OIL LEGAL?

All Lemah Creek Naturals products are made from USA-grown hemp, which is a legal regulated crop under the U.S. Farm Bill of 2018.  Hemp contains many different phytocannabinoids and other plant-based compounds, and CBD is just one of these compounds. Please have a look at our lab reports for detailed information on the contents of each of our products.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY CBD? WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE?

For the best shelf life, please keep your CBD oil in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight.  Doing so will help to preserve the hemp extract (you can even keep it in the refrigerator) for as long as possible. If stored properly, CBD oil can have a shelf life of a year or even longer.

WILL I FAIL A DRUG TEST IF I TAKE CBD PRODUCTS?

Lemah Creek Naturals  products contain CBD, which is just one of many different phytochemicals found in hemp. Hemp may contain THC levels below 0.3%. Our full-spectrum products contain a complete range of hemp extract, including trace amounts of THC (below 0.3%). Most drug tests and drug screenings scan for the presence of THC or its metabolites, and consuming a hemp-based product may result in THC to be stored in your body for varying periods of time.  Lemah Creek Naturals makes no guarantee that users of CBD or hemp-based products will or will not fail a drug test or drug screening.

WILL I GET HIGH?

No. Premium Jane hemp extract products are all made from industrial hemp, which has THC levels below 0.3%). There is no intoxicating or mind-altering effect from taking our products.

WHERE CAN I FIND THE 3RD PARTY TESTING FOR YOUR OILS?

Lemah Creek Naturals believes in transparency and therefore you can find lab results of our various products on their individual product pages. Feel free to explore the site to view our top of the line products and their 3rd party lab results.

WHAT IS FULL SPECTRUM CBD?

Full spectrum is all the good things you get from a plant. The good things come from a wide range of cannabinoids, terpenes, antioxidants, nutrients and other plant compounds present in the hemp plant. It can provide a greater effect than CBD alone as all the cannabinoids work together, as nature intended, in what is known as the entourage effect. A recent study from Israel has documented the superior therapeutic properties of whole-plant (full spectrum) cannabis extract over single-molecule (isolate) cannabidiol (CBD)*.

IS BROAD SPECTRUM CBD THE SAME AS FULL SPECTRUM CBD?

Broad spectrum CBD that has been extracted from the cannabis plant with all of the other compounds from the plant except for THC.  That means it contains terpenes, and other cannabinoids from the plant.  There is no THC in broad spectrum CBD.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CBD OIL?
CBD has been the subject of many peer reviewed medical studies* in regard to various aspects of human health. However, due to DSHEA (Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994) guidelines, we cannot specifically state conditions CBD may address. We encourage you to do your own research, consult with healthcare providers familiar with CBD, and use PubMed.gov as a resource as newly published research is coming out regullary.

CAN I TAKE CBD WITH MY PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION?

Please consult with a healthcare professional familiar with CBD or your pharmacist regarding your current medications and CBD hemp oil.

WHAT WILL I NOTICE WHEN I TAKE CBD OIL?

That depends on several factors including the amount used, frequency and length of use, as well as your body’s metabolism, weight and health status. More isn’t always better. We recommend you start with a small amount and adjust as needed. We also recommend chatting with your healthcare provider if you have any questions about how CBD hemp oil may be working for you.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR CBD TO TAKE EFFECT?

The uptake of CBD depends on several factors such as your current health, your digestion, and the amount (mg) of CBD hemp oil you take. The best source of info on what to expect in relation to time and effect may come from talking to your healthcare professional, or simply by seeing how your body responds.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF CBD?

CBD is generally well tolerated and considered safe. However, the following side effects such as diarrhea, dry mouth, fatigue and changes in appetite, have been reported in clinical studies.*

We’re also beginning to learn CBD interacts with some medications, similar to how grapefruit interacts with some medications.  Remember, everyone is different and it’s always a good idea to discuss your concern for any possible side effects or interactions with your healthcare professional.

CAN CBD CAUSE ALLERGIC REACTIONS?

It is possible to have allergic reactions to most plants. If you’re quite sensitive to many plants and have allergic reactions to them, it’s a good idea to consult with your healthcare professional or allergist before using any new product coming from plants. It might be that you have to start out with a fraction of the suggested serving in order to see if you might react, but as always, please talk to your healthcare provider first.

CAN I GIVE CBD OIL TO MY PET?

Many veterinarians are now recommending CBD for animals due to positive studies regarding animal health. Check with your own vet in regards to using any CBD product for your pet.

WHAT IS THE SUBLINGUAL METHOD OF TAKING CBD?

Taking CBD sublingually means to put it under your tongue.  Ideally, you will want to hold your CBD oil under your tongue for 30-60 seconds and then swallow.

CAN I TRAVEL WITH CBD?

While the TSA has made an official announcement that traveling with hemp-derived CBD with less than 0.3% THC is acceptable, we always recommend speaking with your local TSA directly as we are not able to give legal advice on the legality of CBD.

We recommend calling your departing airport and speaking to TSA directly to hear thier current regulations regarding CBD and travel requirements.

WILL CBD OIL SHOW UP ON A DRUG TEST?

Please note hemp does contain a very LOW amount of THC (less than 0.3%).

We are not legally able to make any recommendations or guarantees with drug tests on THC free or Full Spectrum products. If that is a concern, I would recommend doing some further research before making the decision to consume any CBD products.
